What Should You Consider when Tinting Your Car Windows?

Car window tinting is a straightforward but highly effective way of enhancing the look of any vehicle.

Today it is not only sports stars and other celebrities who have access to car window tinting in order to escape the public eye; the application of modern, sophisticated and state-of-the-art car window films has opened up the benefits of car window tinting to a great many ordinary car owners as well.

For those considering investing in car window tinting, however, there are some important considerations to be aware of.

Firstly, it is vital that any car window tinting complies fully with the laws of the country in which you are driving. UK law stipulates that at least 70% light must be able to pass through the tint on any side window adjacent to the driver or front seat passenger; and that a minimum of 75% light penetration must be achievable via the windscreen.

Failure to comply with the law not only risks a penalty; it is also dangerous. This is because whilst car window tinting can benefit a driver’s visibility by reducing solar glare, too great a degree of tint can actually reduce visibility on the part of drivers, leading to an increase in the number of road traffic collisions.

When a driving trip abroad is being planned using any vehicle fitted with car window tinting film, it is of course always advisable to check whether the vehicle in question needs to comply with the laws pertaining to that overseas destination.

A second important point is that the application of car window tinting films should always be carried out by a trained professional. In order to perform effectively and look good, car window films must be applied smoothly and securely. Not only will the result then match the appearance of more expensive tinted glass fittings, it will also provide the driver with a clear and seamless view.

Thirdly, it is crucial to obtain an assurance that any films applied are truly effective in filtering out the sun’s UVA rays. Experts have advised that where car window tinting succeeds in blocking such dangerous rays real benefits can be achievable in helping to reduce incidences of serious skin damage.

Some final points centre on the actual fitting and care of the window films themselves.

The first of these is to always ensure that prior to installation the vehicle is thoroughly cleaned both in the interior and on the exterior. Any fragments of dirt may affect the successful layering of the film on the car windows and could, in turn, result in the film being contaminated.

Secondly, if the car window film fitters offer to come out to install the film, always secure for them a site to work in that is sheltered from the wind and rain, and is also warm. These important atmospheric conditions are vital in helping prevent the film from becoming warped or damaged.

Finally, when cleaning the car windows after the film is installed, use only a proprietary cleaner recommended by the manufacturer, since some conventional cleaning fluids can inadvertently strip some of the film away.
